Pomegranates have risen in popularity over the last few years for being packed with antioxidants. Although it requires patience to try and extract the delicious fruit to enjoy, it is well worth it, as pomegranates have been attached to many health benefits such as protecting the heart.
Alternative research now suggests that drinking pomegranate juice can provide specific benefits for males – raising testosterone levels.
Low libido often plagues men as they age especially if they also have other health problems like heart disease or erectile dysfunction. A large contributing factor to low libido is declining testosterone levels, which can naturally occur through aging.
Researchers at Queen Margaret University in Edinburg uncovered that drinking pomegranate juice could surge testosterone levels. The study included 60 participants – men and women – who were involved for two weeks. At the end of the study period, saliva samples were taken from the participants to detect testosterone levels. The researchers found that testosterone levels rose 24 percent. Furthermore, the researchers noted a reduction in blood pressure and improved heart health too.
An alternative study published in the Clinical Nutrition found improved sperm quality, spermatogenic cell density, antioxidant activity, and similar to the previous study, higher levels of testosterone, among rats.
The research suggests that if your libido is slacking as a result of your testosterone levels, then it may be wise to consume a daily glass of pomegranate juice as a natural means to boost your levels. For an added testosterone boost, you can pair your beverage with ginger, pineapple, and cinnamon, which are also noted to boost testosterone levels.
By incorporating more pomegranate into your life, not only will you benefit from higher testosterone and libido, but other benefits like improved heart health.
