Exercising Regularly Can Benefit People with Fatty Liver Disease: Study

This insidious disease is closely linked to factors like obesity and metabolic syndrome, such as type 2 diabetes and abnormal blood lipid concentrations. Although there is no cure for NAFLD, exercise is an effective treatment for the condition. For the new study published in Scientific Reports, researchers examined the effects of exercise on metabolism in patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. The randomized controlled intervention study included 46 patients who had been diagnosed with NAFLD. They were divided into an exercise group and a control group that did not increase exercise during the study.

Researchers concluded that exercise affected metabolic pathways differently in different tissues. Exercise improved fasting blood glucose levels and changed the metabolism of amino acids and their lipids and bile acids. These results suggest that exercise can have a beneficial effect on NAFLD, even without weight loss or dietary changes.
