The Healthy Truth: Foods to eat for good healthDear Friends,

We all want to eat well because the foods we ingest work to improve our overall health—but, of course, I don’t need to tell you that. The problem arises when temptation sets in or we are unsure about what we should be eating. One day we are told to stock up on kale, then the next day another superfood emerges… it can definitely become quite confusing when it comes to staying on top of the latest food trends.

I like to keep it simple—stick to foods that occur naturally. This means “trying” to eat a diet that is as wholesome as possible, avoiding processed, sugary foods, and sticking to the main food groups. Of course, we all have those temptations when someone in the office brings in a cake, or a holiday has come up, or you’re just really craving a burger and fries, and that’s totally fine—once in a while, that is.

We’re all human, and we all have needs (and wants) when it comes to food, but it’s all about balance. I’m not saying I am an angel when it comes to clean eating, but I do fully agree that if you have a great week of balancing diet and exercise, you totally deserve that pizza and pastry to celebrate the weekend! In fact, I’m so simple with my diet that I essentially stick to the same foods and routine. This means eggs, hummus, and protein shake for breakfast, a meat and a vegetable for lunch, and a meat and a vegetable with some carbs for dinner—that’s it! It may sound boring, but there is so much variety you can choose from, switching between fish or chicken, and don’t even get me started about the endless vegetable choices you can enjoy and cook in a variety of ways!
To help you better eat healthy and improve your health I have put together a simple infographic for your reference to give you some pointers on what foods to eat and how they can benefit the different parts of your body. Here is a list of some foods that can benefit different aspects of your health:

  • Brain: Salmon, tuna, sardines, walnuts.
  • Hair: Green vegetables, beans, salmon.
  • Eyes: Corn, eggs, carrots.
  • Heart: Tomatoes, potatoes, and prune juice.
  • Lungs: Broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage.
  • Muscles: Bananas, red meat, fish, eggs.
  • Bowels and digestion: Yogurt, prunes, whole grains, berries, bananas.
  • Skin: Salmon, green tea, blueberries.
  • Bones: Milk, dairy products, oranges, leafy greens, nuts.

Now that you have a better idea of foods to improve your health you can start developing your healthy diet and get creative on how to incorporate such foods into your daily routine. Eating well shouldn’t be complicated and food should be enjoyed. Food is also fuel for every part of our body, so you want to eat the right foods in order to stay energized and to ensure all your bodily functions are working top-notch.

Until next time,

Emily Lunardo
