Being Thin …with Cellulite? Why ...

You might have looked at yourself from the wrong angle in the mirror and seen something pretty scary. Cellulite. And it’s not just for overweight people. There are a number of factors that decide whether you will be predisposed to the ugly “orange rind” appearance that could be gracing your rear-regions, and if plastic surgery isn’t an option, maybe having a better idea of why it’s there could lead to some preventative tips for getting more youthful looking skin, at any weight!

What is Cellulite and What Does it Mean for More Youthful Looking Skin

A common misconception is that cellulite has everything to do with gaining weight, and while being bigger can make the cellulite stand out more, weight gain or being bigger has very little to do with cellulite in the first place. This is what makes it so stubborn, if not impossible to get rid of.

Cellulite is a layer of “insulation” that differs from body fat because of its tendency to deposit in unsightly areas such as the thighs, buttocks and abdomen. Cellulite is a collection of fat deposited under a layer of the skin that also contains connective tissue, so when fat and fluids also collect under it, the layer will become thicker which is what gives the “orange rind” appearance which can have an effect on youthful skin.

There are two main reasons why you might look in the mirror and see cellulite, no matter what the number on the scale says. Your genetics (whether your mother or grandmother has/had them) and the general “thickness” of your skin.

My Mother Has Cellulite…

If the elder women in your family suffered from stretch marks or cellulite during any period of sudden weight gain or loss (such as pregnancy) there is a decent chance that you will too. So unfortunately, changing up your diet, and working out like crazy, while it may diminish the appearance of cellulite and stretch marks, it might not take them away completely.

Want More Youthful Looking Skin – Check Thickness

How “thick” or “thin” your skin feels and looks has a lot to do with your changes for stretch marks and cellulite, too. Cellulite rears its head more when the person in question has thinner skin, allowing a little less to the imagination. But don’t get excited if you have thicker skin, this could also mean you have cellulite, but that it could just be hidden a little better under the thicker layer.

Most women will find that cellulite is very difficult to get rid of once it has started to appear. There are many tips and tricks out there to address cellulite, but one of the most used would be toning exercises which many fitness experts say can an at least diminish the appearance of cellulite. Lunges and squat thrusts are two exercises that women (and even some men) can do try to try and smooth out the top layer of skin to reduce the appearance of cellulite for more youthful looking skin.
