The right type of breakfast to help you lose weightWe know that breakfast is an important meal and can aid in weight loss, but researchers have found the right type of breakfast to help you lose weight. The findings are from a Cornell Food and Lab team that aimed to uncover what exactly healthy people eat for breakfast in order to maintain a healthy weight.

The team created a Slim by Design online registry to uncover behaviors and characteristics of people with healthy weight versus those who struggled with their weight. A total of 147 men and women participated by answering questions about their breakfast habits. For example, “On an average day, what would you have for breakfast?”

Common breakfast items consumed by slim people were fruit, dairy, cold cereal/granola, bread, eggs, hot cereal and coffee. Only four percent of respondents indicated they did not consume breakfast.

Lead author Anna-Leena Vuorinen said, “One important take away from this study is that a very high rate of slim people actually eat breakfast instead of skipping, which is consistent with previous research on the importance of breakfast. But what stands out is that they not only ate breakfast, but that they ate healthful foods like fruits and vegetables. Also, egg consumption was higher than we expected.”

Therefore, if you’re struggling to lose weight or are just hoping to shed a few pounds, you may wish to consider consuming the foods slim people have been found to eat.
