The Trendy Detox You Need to Avoid

tea detoxWith the season of booze and food behind us, we’re now in the season of detox and weight loss. If you’re like many of us, you probably overindulged during the holiday season and felt pretty crummy as a result. Detoxing might seem tempting, but is it safe?

In particular, a very trendy type of detox can be seen everywhere you look. It involves drinking a detoxing tea to get a flatter tummy and improve your digestion.

Many celebrities promote tea detoxes, which make them seem like a great idea. If celebrities use it, it must be good, right?

Many of the ingredients in these teas you have heard of before and probably already drink in a variety of teas, including ginger and peppermint. These ingredients are known to help relieve bloating and other stomach issues. But if tea detoxes contain the same ingredients as other teas, what makes them so unique?

What differentiates tea detoxes with regular teas is the ingredient Senna.

Senna is a natural laxative known to help relieve constipation and keep you regular. The problem is there are vast warnings against the long-term use of Senna. The body can become accustomed to passing a bowel movement with it, which means when you stop drinking these teas, you may have great difficulty going to the bathroom. Not going to the bathroom means feeling sluggish, which brings you back to where you are currently.

This sounds much more dangerous than effective as a cleanse.

Instead of thinking a miracle beverage is going to get you in tip-top shape, why not embrace a healthier lifestyle instead?

First off, start consuming smaller meals, because all that overeating from December didn’t do you any favors.

Second, enrich your diet with vegetables, fish, lean proteins, fruits, and whole grains. These foods contain the right nutrients your body needs to detox naturally on its own.

Third, embark on a workout routine to further help shed extra pounds.

There is no secret or magic behind feeling better. It just involves some hard work and not hurting your colon with laxatives.
