healthy-truth-relaxing-songDear Friends,

Looking to relax? You may need to, considering today is Election Day. Numerous studies report this election has been the most stressful yet, regardless if you’re Republican or Democratic.

Today, for many Americans, that stress will probably hit its peak, causing blood pressure to rise, which can be particularly harmful for seniors and those with heart issues. Whether your candidate wins or loses, the fact that we all have to wait for the results to come in can be incredibly stressful.

So why not promote some relaxation, before and after the election? And you can easily do so by listening to what has been deemed the most relaxing song in the world.

The song first appeared back in 2011, but has recently hit a running momentum once again, for somewhat obvious reasons I’d say. With more people reporting excess stress, it seems we can all use some chill time.

The song is titled “Weightless,” and it was created by the band Marconi Union. Studies have shown this song can reduce stress by up to 65 percent. Music can have a powerful impact on us, so it comes as no surprise that it is a recommended way to de-stress.

The song was specifically made to evoke a spa-like feeling. The band worked alongside sound therapists to make sure the song really sings to your brain in a therapeutic way.
You see, there is no repetition in the song itself, meaning, your brain doesn’t have to try and find a pattern. So instead you are left to be swept away by the melodies as you sink into your chair, couch, or bed.

The song gradually slows down its tempo, from 60 beats per minute to 50. It also does this at a rate your heart can keep up with, so your heart rate can gradually slow down as well.

Although the song can last up to 10 hours, there is a much shorter eight-minute version you can purchase and download to reduce stress in a short amount of time. Just be wary of where you listen to “Weightless” – it may relax you too much so that driving can become dangerous. It’s best that you enjoy this tune in the comfort of your own home, where you can really unwind and reap the benefits.

Whether the election is stressing you out or there is any other occurrence in your life that has you on the edge, you may want to give this song a try to reduce stress and enter a place of calm.

Until next week,

Emily Lunardo
