The Healthy Truth: I did a 5-day foot detox and this is what happenedDear Friends,

Now that the holidays are over, many of us are looking for ways to detox our bodies – me included. While doing some post-holiday shopping, I came across a 5-day foot detox. Here’s how it works. For five nights you stick on these pads, which promise to drain out toxins from the body, at the bottom of your feet. I figured I didn’t have anything to lose so I decided to give it a try.

The package promised that over the course of five days these pads would help boost circulation, improve metabolism, relieve pain, and of course, remove toxins.

I started last Monday by applying the sticky pads to the bottom of my feet and went to bed. When I woke up to remove them, the once white pad was completely black! Yup, you read right, the adhesive pad went from white to black. It was pretty cool to see, and it really makes you think the pads are working. I have to admit that I didn’t feel that much different, but I knew I had four days left to go so I stuck with the plan.

By day two, the pad was still black the next morning, but once again I didn’t feel that much of a difference – or so I thought.

Between day two and day four, I found myself to be much hungrier, which could be a result of my metabolism working overtime. Over the course of these four days, the pads went from solid black to gray, which makes you think that (hopefully) there are fewer toxins in your body.

On the final night I applied the foot pads as normal, but unfortunately for some reason by the time I woke up the pads had completely come off my feet and got tangled up in my bed sheets, so I don’t have any information on my detox progress. I was a bit disappointed and pondered why this would happen, especially because the four nights prior the pads stuck on so well without even budging.
My takeaway from the experiment is that while I can’t say for sure that the pads help remove toxins from the body, they definitely played a role in my metabolism as I did feel hungrier. Plus, I was suffering from an inflamed foot and seeing a physiotherapist on a weekly basis. When I saw her on Thursday she said the inflammation had gone tremendously and considering that I hadn’t iced my foot or done that many of the exercises which she recommended I’ll give credit to the pads in helping with that.

So what’s my final verdict? Considering the product wasn’t that expensive I would recommend that you give it a try – you don’t have much to lose. It was pretty cool to wake up the next day and see this white pad turn completely black, it does provide the feeling that you are detoxing yourself. Would I do it again? Probably, I don’t really see why not. Even if it is just useful for speeding up metabolism and relieving pain I’m still good with that. Maybe if I do it again I will try it for two weeks and see if I notice other benefits as well.

Are you detoxing this January? If so, what is your detox method of choice? You have to be careful when considering a detox product as some can be quite taxing on the body. Do your research and ensure you are detoxing in a safe matter. Frankly, your best way to “detox” is by simply following a healthy diet and taking part in regular exercise – no product can offer you the benefits of eating well and working out.

Until next week,

Emily Lunardo
