The risk of epilepsy after stroke was seen higher among younger stroke survivors. That is because brain damage tends to be far more extensive in younger patients, compared to older ones.
Study author Dr. Beate Diehl explained, “Many physicians treating stroke patients don’t realize that falls, episodes of confusion, and loss of consciousness may be signs of post-stroke epilepsy. Post-stroke epileptic seizures can negatively affect stroke recovery and rehabilitation.”
