Save your vision month

Save Your Vision Month has been observed annually in the month of March beginning in 2005. It is a month to spread awareness about the importance of eye health and serves as a reminder to get your eyes tested. This week, we published several articles on eye health including topics for better eye health. These include yoga for the eyes and home remedies on how to improve vision. In addition, some articles have information on not only the causes and diagnosis of problems such as double vision, cloudy vision, and visual snow, but also on their treatment.

Double vision (diplopia) causes: Thyroid disease, stroke, and MS

Double vision (diplopia) can be caused by thyroid disease, stroke or multiple sclerosis (MS). Double vision is when a single object appears blurred or doubled. Double vision can be temporary or it can occur all the time. Double vision can be horizontal, vertical or diagonal.

There are three types of diplopia: binocular double vision, monocular double vision and physiological double vision. Binocular double vision is when both eyes do not work properly, but if the patient covers one eye, their vision returns to normal.

Monocular double vision is when a patient covers the unaffected eye and the vision remains doubled. Only one eye produces the double vision, so when the affected eye is covered vision appears normal.

Lastly, physiological double vision is when objects that a person is not focusing on appear double. This type of double vision can go unnoticed because the brain compensates for the double vision in the background. This type of double vision is most commonly seen in children. Continue reading…

Yoga for eyes: Easy eye yoga poses to improve vision

Yoga is comprised of a group of physical, mental, and spiritual practices that help promote health and well-being. These types of exercises may also extend to other less appreciated muscles, such as the ones found in your eyes by performing eye yoga. Yoga for healthy eyes can help improve their functioning and even overcome various eye-related problems such as short-sightedness and long-sightedness.

Our eyes are one of the most important organs in the human body, allowing us to view the world around us. However, we often neglect to take care of them, but yoga exercises for eyes aim to improve various disorders that affect eye muscles.

This article will outline many yoga exercises for eye vision improvement that involve moves that utilize the entire body. These are often simple enough to do on your own and at your leisure, right at home or where ever you find the time. Continue reading…

What is cloudy vision and how to get rid of it?

Having cloudy vision can lead to the loss of visual acuity or blurred visual perception. It may affect one or both eyes and feel like a haziness or lack of clarity in vision. Cloudy vision may be a constant occurrence or one that comes and goes. It can also affect color perception and may be accompanied by the perception of halos or glare around light sources.

There are many causes of cloudy vision, with some being more harmful than others. Discharge from the eyes or tearing can lead to the condition, or it could be the symptom of a more serious disorder such as glaucoma or trauma to the eye.

It is important to note that cloudy vision is not the same as blurry vision, despite the terms being used interchangeably. Blurry vision is often caused by a refractive error in the lens of the eye that can be corrected with eyeglasses. Cloudy vision is the gradual loss of transparency of the cornea or lens of the eye, which most commonly occurs in cases of cataracts. Early development of cataracts can occur as a result of injury, diabetes, or prolonged use of certain medication. Continue reading…

Visual snow: Why there is snow or television-like static in your vision?

Visual snow is a relatively rare condition due in part to many affected individuals not being aware they have it. It is the subtle perception of a “visible snow” over your entire field of vision, similar to static noise that you see on a TV screen. The condition is said to be more visible over solid surfaces than over textured ones. However, it is still a condition not fully recognized by the medical community. This may change as more research is done on the condition.

What does visual snow mean?

Visual snow may also be referred to as “visual static” or “positive persistent visual disturbance.” The clinical term for it is aeropsia, which literally translates to “seeing air.” The condition is often described as seeing tiny white and black dots that resemble the poor reception a TV can receive, but in a very obscure manner that doesn’t completely impede vision. Accompanying symptoms may include photophobia (a sensitivity to light), prolonged after images, color swirls, trailing, bright flashes, poor night vision, and floaters. Visual snow is not associated with a visual aura that commonly occurs with migraine headaches despite the fact that many patients with visual snow also have migraines. Continue reading…

Acupressure for eye health

You may have heard of acupressure, which involves applying pressure to points in the body to boost circulation and promote healing. This treatment is similar to acupuncture, but instead of using fine needles, fingers target the healing points.

Acupressure for eye health is an effective, natural way to improve eyesight, and you can easily perform it on yourself.

Around your eye, there are seven acupressure points. They start at the corner of your eye—closest to your nose—and continue across the brow, ending underneath your eyelid. Massaging each point for at least 10 seconds can increase circulation.. Continue reading…

Eye problems can not only affect vision, but can hamper our functioning in daily life. While double vision can be corrected by lenses and eye exercises, conditions such as cloudy vision and visual snow may have more deep-rooted causes and cannot be rectified by glasses. Therefore, it is essential to get them diagnosed and treated at the earliest before they progress. Better than this, however, is attempting to maintain healthy eyes by practicing yoga for eyes and following the tips we have provided to improve vision.
