But vaccinations are increasing, COVID-19 infections are decreasing, and for many, social life is beginning to look a little more like it did before March 2020.

Although the last year may have been taxing, you can start feeling young again by playing with your grandkids.

Grandkids can serve as both a source of motivation to improve your lifestyle and a tangible tool to use to help you get there. No matter how you slice it, grandkids can help keep you young.

A friend of mine, for example, underwent a major lifestyle change when she learned her first grandchild was on the way. The next generation offered her a new lease on life, and she began eating better and exercising more so she could both play with the eventual toddler and give herself the best chance to be alive to witness her newest family member’s life milestones.

Thirteen years later and another grandchild later, she has kept up with the demands and built strong relationships that have kept her young. Because of her lifestyle changes, she was able to spend hours playing with each of them, and both of them together, throughout their young years.

The pandemic certainly made it harder. Unable to see her grandchildren and weighted down by the stress, her lifestyle took a bit of a hit. But as things have begun to turn around, you can see how her lifestyle and outlook have improved, too.

Playing with your grandkids can be one of the best things you can do for your health. If you don’t have the energy or capability at the moment, that’s okay. Slowly including more activity into your daily life and making healthier eating choices can help get you there.

Before long, you can be running around with your grandkids, having fun, and building unbreakable bonds that last a lifetime.
