fall foodsWe are very much into fall now—look around and you will see the leaves changing, the temperature getting cooler, and the sun setting much earlier. Along with these changes come fall foods. It’s recommended to eat foods when they are in season as they are more readily available, which means they are less likely to be modified.

Fall foods bring with them a slew of nutrients that can work to improve your health. Specifically, some fall foods can actually work to improve your hearing. Below you will uncover the best fall foods for hearing health.

Best fall foods to help improve hearing

Pumpkins and winter squash: Pumpkins and winter squash are packed with vitamins and nutrients that help boost your immune system, protect you against ear infections, help fight free-radicals, help support the auditory system, and help prevent cell damage. Instead of using pumpkins for decorations, find quick and easy recipes to really benefit from them. Often, roasting them in the oven is a delicious way to consume them.

Apples: An apple a day may keep the doctor away, but they can also support hearing health. Many of the same nutrients found in pumpkins and winter squash are also present in apples, which means apples can support hearing health—they fight free radical damage and protect the delicate structures of the inner ear. The great part about apples is that they are an easy take-and-go snack and can be a snack, part of your breakfast, or even used in entrees and smoothies.

Dark leafy greens: Some great fall time dark leafy greens include spinach, kale, and arugula which are all packed with vitamins and antioxidants which, once again, work to support the auditory system.

Aside from consuming these fall foods, you can further protect your hearing by avoiding loud noises, not using cotton swabs to clean your ears, and having your hearing checked regularly to spot any changes to your hearing early on.
